International Student Pathways
We have short or long-term placements available for international students
4-6 months: September-December, September-January, January-June
Full school year: September to June (Recommended)
University pathway: Grade 8-12
In addition to our academic program, students also have access to English as an Additional Language (EAL) program where they can get as much support as they need, and they can take part in a variety of athletics, arts, and clubs and extra-curricular programs like debate, robotics, band, drama, and yearbook. As part of their experience here, students also learn about Halifax and Nova Scotia through a wealth of fun outings and field trips. This can include activities like ice skating on the Emera Oval, city tours on the Harbour Hopper, a visit to Sugar Moon Farm to learn about maple syrup, watching Halifax Mooseheads hockey games, and pizza and movie nights.
International students are required to live in Halifax with at least one parent for the duration of the school year. If this is not an option, the international student must be placed in our Homestay Program, where they live with a local family. Our Homestay Program is managed by our partner, International Student Guardianship Canada (ISGC), which provides superior guardianship services to students from more than 40 countries in multiple languages.
International student tuition is all-inclusive and covers:
- Our Homestay Program, including a private room, study area, all meals, and participation in family life
- Health insurance
- Uniform
- Monthly transit pass
- Trips and activities
- EAL support and classes
Please contact admissions@shsh.ca for more information on tuition.
Students are encouraged to apply directly or through one of our partner agencies. Please contact our Admissions Office for assistance.

We acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. Sacred Heart School of Halifax is built on what’s known as ‘the place of the Spirits’ because the Great Spirit Fire sat here.
