Student Life

Welcome

Being a student at Sacred Heart isn’t just about academics, there’s a whole world beyond the classroom.

Try your hand — or voice — at a musical, advocate for change by running for a leadership position on Student Council, channel your inner Shark and compete on one of our many sports teams, explore the world through a student exchange, join the band, join the choir, join a club!

The options are as varied as your interests and all part of our core values, particularly Goal 5 which calls our students to consider their personal growth.

Along your school journey, we are here to help every step of the way and we provide very intentional support for your academic, physical, social-emotional and spiritual health and growth.

On the academic side, we have a Learning Strategist in both the Elementary and Senior Schools, a University Prep Counsellor for high school students, and a Senior School Vice Principal solely dedicated to academic life. Our amazing faculty and small class sizes also contribute to a tailored learning environment centred around relational learning where each and every student is known, nurtured, and loved.

Our School Counsellors, supported in the Senior School by our Vice Principal of Student Life, are wholly devoted to the well-being of our students and provide individualized care and attention. They, along with faculty members, teach health in Elementary School and Core in Senior School where social-emotional learning is prioritized and character education and development instil strong and meaningful core values. This is supported by assemblies, advisories, and special guests where we dive deep into meaningful and important issues.

In both the Elementary and Senior Schools, physical education and personal wellness are priorities. Both are part of our curriculum, and through clubs, sports, and extracurricular activities, we give students plenty of time and opportunity to be physically active while also inspiring students to make smart personal choices that lead to healthier and happier lives.

We are also very intentional about our spiritual life; it’s as much a part of our ethos as our academic excellence. In addition to religion being part of our curriculum, we come together spiritually as a community through liturgies and special services and model healthy practices like espacio — conscious time to pray and reflect.

“I am not exaggerating when I say that Sacred Heart is the reason my daughter was successful at school and able to enrol in and now perform very well in university. We transferred her to Sacred Heart because it was clear that she had fallen into the cracks in public school and no one intended to pull her out. From the time she joined the school, she didn’t look back!”
